eschatology

A clue in Fellini's La Dolce Vita about that old Mithraic esotericism: To live outside of time, detached...

This is a random thing but it caught my attention. At almost the exact middle of Fellini's La Dolce Vita there is a somber discussion as Marcello, the tabloid journalist protagonist, tells Steiner the intellectual he wishes he had such a nice & accomplished life.

But Steiner looks out the window and fears for the life his children will face. He says he wishes he could "live outside of time, detached" in English subtitles, anyway. He's one of the more distinctly anti-fascist characters in the film & he seems to also be lamenting what appear to be persistent spotlights of the spectacle outside his windows.

to-live-outside-time.png

Sometimes at night this darkness, this silence, weighs on me. Peace frightens me. I'm afraid of peace more than anything else. To me it seems that it's only an outer shell and that hell is hiding behind it. I think of what my children will see tomorrow. "The world will be wonderful," they say. From what point of view? When a phone call can announce the end of the world. One should live outside of passions, beyond emotions, in that harmony you find in completed artworks in that enchanted order. We should learn to love each other so much, to live outside of time, detached. Detached.

Thus ends the middle segment of the film divided into seven days and nights.

Only a couple days earlier, thanks to @daviDNAlexander I ran into a funny essay, "The Entheogen Theory of Religion and Ego Death" by Michael Hoffman which dives into the idea that ancient mystery religions sought a very similar sort of avenue to enlightenment.

Tauroctony.jpg

The idea is explored by associating the various snakes and orphic egg iconography with the sort of wiggly path that a person's life takes, as if it were seen from a five-dimensional or timeless perspective, a "frozen universe". Likewise the notions of fixed fates & destinies were always so big in ancient western mythology. Connections are made to the ancient Mithra cult, an important underlying source of symbolism for Roman Catholicism. No surprise, then, that the idea would have wiggled its way into a film so closely linked to Italy & Catholicism as Vita.

Side note: The floppy red Phrygian cap worn by Mithra turns up later in a lot of revolutionary and Freemasonry-friendly artwork in the time of the French Revolution, as well as within the Romanesque iconography of America's "civic religion". I posted a whole bunch of related art including the symbolic caps, see images posted previously: June 2011: Dashing Wartime Philosopher Bernard Henri Lévy ties Libyan rebels & Netanyahu, lolz at teh Bilderberg conspiracy - and your French Revolution Freemason delirium too! | HongPong.com

And of course, Hoffman writes about the notion that entheogenic drugs allow the 'ego death' so that one can finally see a glimpse of that weird little fixed place in the cosmos, before you shake it off and resume weaving forward on your linear life path…

I'm sure there are other interesting symbols stuffed into Dolce Vita that I've only barely begun to find, but I definitely dig how this particular moment is right at the very middle of the film.

The Vortex or authoritarian Singularity

Sorry there have been some tech glitches precluding me from posting more lately. But also a lot of neat things in the works :-)
In response to The Agonist thread on 8 Thoughts on 2040:

Among the Kurzweil set there is a lot of happy talk about a Singularity describing a point where the rate of change itself accelerates to an asymptote, i.e. reaches infinity as technical advances multiply upon one another, and this is characterized as a radical shift in subjective consciousness that's a clean break from the past way of experiencing time. This is usually lauded as a benign experience because it's assumed it would solve material scarcity.

However there is also the 'rise of the machines' scenario as the Terminator movies visualize, where autonomous networks overtake all human decisionmaking ability and take over the nukes.
The level of corruption and the way it all works and what it's really all about becomes unbelievable to most people. It's about the Great Abyss. Picture a canyon, a deep abyss, surrounded by high walls. And in that Abyss whirls a continuous maelstrom of fraud and corruption. At the very bottom is the Great Vortex, known as the Vortex of the Way Everything Works and What It's Really All About.
You don't want to look too deep into the Vortex. It's dangerous. Look at all the people who have looked too deeply and the consequences. The only way you survive the Vortex is to become part of it. Everyone who has attempted to expose the Vortex hasn't fared very well. But conversely, that's The Way It's Supposed To Be. That's the way everything works. It is an interlocking system of corruption and fraud that transcends and goes through all governments. It is in fact a common link that all governments share."

--Al Martin, "The Conspirators: Secrets of an Iran Contra Insider"

If you show up sometimes you can perceive the Vortex pretty directly, or at least the outlying psychological principles bringing into view. Wherever you see the Constitution displaced by power spectacles in this country, the emotional grid of the Vortex is pretty obvious -- the G20 and the RNC like this.

Today at the city courthouse I saw a huge rush of people for the Public Defender income qualification forms. Those offices have already been slashed, while the federal government prints off money to buy LRAD sonic weapons and tattoo shop FBI notices.

When the complete system to 'estimate pre-crime' through pervasive data collection, social network and behavioral modeling, is completed, or approaches completion, the nature of decisionmaking would change but only in an authoritarian direction, as control over the future sinks into the control of the Vortex. That is not a required outcome, but its current incarnation (or meme cloud) claims to be the inevitable one.

AS James Bamford alludes to with the NSA's exhaustive interest in collecting all dimensions of material reality (and reshaping its future) they are building a tower of Babel - a big one outside San Antonio by all accounts. But they can't read it, it is all a mess. The control grid's clarity fails because it can't really understand the ontology. These killer databases don't understand Iraqi nationalism -- so on its own premise it has already lost.

They have spent $290,000,000,000 without oversight

But fortunately no one is getting any bonuses for Christmas!!

Bailout Oversight Panel Empty

November 14, 2008 08:44 AM EST

Its been six weeks since the unprecedented bailout package was passed. In that time, the Treasury Department has spent or committed $290 billion of the $700 billion package. Money has gone into large banks, small banks, businesses like Amex which were granted bank holding company status, and places that Treasury refuses to reveal.

A key provision of the bailout was independent oversight of the entire bailout process. It was to be open and transparent.

What has not happened during those six weeks is completion of the first monitoring report even though the deadline has past. Nor has there been any formal action to fill the independent oversight posts established by Congress when it approved the bailout to prevent corruption and government waste.

The newly created position of Inspector General has yet to be filled. The Inspector General was to be nominated by the President, and a congressional oversight panel. In the interim Eric Thorson, Inspector General of the Treasury Department, has been overseeing the bailout program. Congress has yet to nominate the five member oversight panel, and the President has yet to submit a name for confirmation.

Alex Jones Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement: Actually, pretty good!

"Countless people will hate the New World Order and will die protesting against it."
--HG Wells - "The New World Order" (1939). This quote opens the flick.

The rich are going to kill everyone, then try to merge with technology and live forever!!!1!!! w0000

Get ready for the Internet Paranoia Movie of the Season, everyone! Texas loud guy Alex Jones has just released Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement! And it's free to copy on the Internet: Get the Word out against the New World Order!! etc!!!

Basically, it goes through history, looking at various evil empires that dominated and killed the masses all along the way. Combine eugenics, false-flag terror, war financing, and the big NWO scheme, confronted by a loud Texas guy with a bullhorn. Result: Pretty good stuff!

There are some fun guerilla video adventures: Jones turns up at the mysterious Bilderberg Group meeting in Ottowa, wherein the Evil Schemers plot their stuff. Jim Tucker, crusading Bilderberg watcher in cowboy hat, knows the ways around their devious schemes. They catch numerous officials, including George Pataki (of the Patakilluminati) violating the Logan Act by meeting in secret with foreign politicians. (someday we gotta nail the neocons with Logan. More later on that).

A major element is how the Global New World Order Microsoft McDonalds Dictatorship will create regional super-governments. First the European Union. Makes the point that the African Union is really the gendarme force of the NWO in Africa. The Asian Union and North American Union are examined. Secret plans for the SPP - Security and Prosperity Partnership - are revealed for all. Secret summits plotting the merging of military and trade, so that more goods may flood into the USA via Mexico from Asia.

Crusty old Texans bitch about how they're going to kill the New World Order and its Trans Texas Corridor schemes first of all. RFID tags will be installed on your car to tax you for the global empire - just like the Romans!

Modern China is the test case for the New World Order, the laboratory if you will. Organ harvesting of prisoners and other total Capitalism police state elements are examined in jarring detail (as is David Rockefeller's enthusiasm for Mao).

Technological sophistication and the secret history of eugenics are examined with great care. An Aldous Huxley clip where he talks about how the "Brave New World" plan was basically real, combined with an ugly Texas bureaucrat explaining how the foster kids need to be pumped full of drugs because they come from a bad gene pool. Excellent work! Margaret Sanger's eugenics schemes financed by the Rockefellers - that's really the nut of it. Points out that the big environmental groups are purchasing all the land, perhaps intending to depopulate rural America, but don't give a damn about genetic engineering.

Lastly, probably my favorite element (besides the choice quotes from Kissinger et al about Total Depopulation of the Third World) was how trans-humanist New Age hippiedom with the synthetic cyborg stuff fits into the Big Plan. The rich are going to kill 80% of everyone, then try to merge with technology and live forever!

Carbon trading is just there to kill the middle class and finance the elite schemes. Police forces and the military are recruiting foreigners to repress the domestic population. Etc!

Well that's about it. I have to say, I was impressed. The visual trimmings are the most sophisticated Jones has released. He doesn't ever bother to even say that 9/11 was staged by the Secret Government, which of course has been his bread and butter for a while. Instead, Jones takes a step back, and his core point is that "Governments are more likely to kill people than anyone else. The elite always do this shit!" Fair enough, sir.

I have been worrying about Rationalized Annihilation for quite a while. Living in these times of war, extreme annihilationist ideologies are very chic. Look at TV for a bit, or listen to the corporate talk radio. People that make a lot of money are telling you to kill, and everyone else to kill.

Say what you will about Alex Jones: he is definitely against the perpetual war agenda, and it takes a guy like him to run around and yell at "those guys", the rich and shady cats that have been fucking everything up.

Better yet: It's free! Legally!

Take a look at your typical BitTorrent sites for downloadable/DVD burnable versions. Also posted on Google Video, but it's too chunky on parts with text. Here is the promo copy:

For the New World Order, a world government is just the beginning. Once in place they can engage their plan to exterminate 80% of the world's population, while enabling the "elites" to live forever with the aid of advanced technology. For the first time, crusading filmmaker ALEX JONES reveals their secret plan for humanity's extermination: Operation ENDGAME.

Jones chronicles the history of the global elite's bloody rise to power and reveals how they have funded dictators and financed the bloodiest wars—creating order out of chaos to pave the way for the first true world empire.

* Watch as Jones and his team track the elusive Bilderberg Group to Ottawa and Istanbul to document their secret summits, allowing you to witness global kingpins setting the world's agenda and instigating World War III.

* Learn about the formation of the North America transportation control grid, which will end U.S. sovereignty forever.

* Discover how the practitioners of the pseudo-science eugenics have taken control of governments worldwide as a means to carry out depopulation.

* View the progress of the coming collapse of the United States and the formation of the North American Union

Here it is on Google Video: it's two hours long though, I would make a new window and so forth, or find a sharper download somewhere:

All right Alex, way to fuck up the program. Go have a margarita or something, just relax a bit before you get an embolism, dude!

Religious-military complexes, mass psychotropic drugging in the water, and a Presence in the Sky: must be Nine Inch Nails' apocalyptic new Year Zero

Wikipedia En 7 76 ResistanceavatarlogoA new concept album from Trent Reznor, "Year Zero," is an impressive 21st century take on dystopia, mechanization and the sense of the apocalypse. There's a story about a strange hand coming from the sky, monstrous militarization and so forth. The official site even has a GarageBand-compatible mix file for you to make your own remix of "Survivalism," which is a badass video of SWAT teams attacking a panopticon apartment building trying to kill the band. Nice! You can even listen to the whole album for free on the website! Here we see the Presence:

Along with this they put up a series of orwellian and surreal websites that wikipedia has deemed the Year Zero alternate reality game (and more here). First of all, the Church of Plano - I like Plano's Faithful Civil Patrol!

It's kinda like The Wall on Prozac I guess. The CD itself had a thermal color-changing finish, which turned from dark to light in the player. A binary code on the CD leads to another site, exterminal.net. I used a cold beer to press dark circles in it, then light fingerprints. Physically the sweetest CD ever, so it's a good thing NIN's trying to kill the format at the same time.

The album is much like NIN's others, harsh and weird, with a lot of very interesting industrial sequences. If you're into NIN it's great, and if you can handle ominous industrial music you'll probably like it. Really well executed, and an impressive artistic turn that goes beyond the dead CD format.

The most wicked and ominous place on earth: The Babel/Babylon military base, military industrial eschatology??

Today's quotes from Apocalypse Now...

Chef: I used to think if I died in an evil place then my soul wouldn't make it to heaven. Well, fuck. I don't care where it goes as long it ain't here.

Iraq is one of the world's most historic places. One site of interest is Nebuchadnezzar's old palace, the site of Daniel's prophetic dreams and all that weird stuff in the Old Testament. Google Earth shows us the lumpy ziggurat rendered near the palace and other historic sites, some rebuilt.

Google Earthscreensnapz001

The "Whore of Babylon" and all that other stuff was technically located right here. Saddam rebuilt the palace and stamped his own name into the bricks, alongside Nebuchadnezzar's.

Kurtz: What do you call assassins who accuse assassins?

So, in six thousand years, what political entity might want to take control of this geographic point? What sort of thing would want to control the point where supposedly God crashed the tower of Babel and introduced discord to humanity? (eris discordia's headquarters, you R. Anton Wilson fans could say)

Hubert: You are fighting for the biggest nothing in history.

I'll give you a tip... it's got five sides and it can nuke the whole world....

Google Earthscreensnapz002

Kurtz: The horror. The horror.

That's right! The Bush administration's Pentagon, esoterically compelled to assert direct control over the land of Babel and the Garden of Eden, plopped a huge military base right onto the site, parking a fleet of black helicopters on the very parcel of land once cursed by the Israelites. So the Pentagon, a vast and grim bureaucracy, seizes control of this most wicked of sites and builds a military base on top of it, another strange layer of history in the making.

It's another attempted religious conversion of a geographic point that some cultures believe to be a junction with the spiritual plane - like Al Aqsa/Temple Mount or those places the Hindus and Sikhs dicker over.

Note above how the helicopters are parked in two lines that converge about where that little white sphere icon is. That sphere (a wikipedia bookmark in Google Earth) marks the location of the Ishtar Gate, one of the original wonders of the world. The whole site has a strange geometry.

Now as an atheist I'm bound to discount all lines of reasoning that depend on theological primary claims, but seriously, if you believe in any kind of Judeo-Christian theology then this area has to have some kind of black magic - some sort of haywire quality in the cosmic order. Maybe that's why the Pentagon needed to seize it: the five pointed entity wanted to either rectify the location, or else use its mythical power as an infusion into itself.

Google Earthscreensnapz003

Backing up a little further here, we see the rest of the base sprinkled around the lake area. The many trailers are the basic units of military materiel. There is a major highway just to the east (we are facing west here).

It's disturbing that no one in America knows or cares that Babylon itself has a US military base. You would think a few fundamentalist Christian preachers would be alarmed about it. Does Pat Robertson think this is a good idea? That, I think, would be the answer to where this whole project fits in the big worldview - the big strange ideology that guides the decisions.

I'm just getting a little dramatic here. The most fundamental point is that it's a cruel and callous act to build a foreign military base right on top of the world's top-level archaelogical sites, of major religious and cultural significance. It's just like they didn't give a fuck when the Baghdad museum got sacked.

[quoting Kurtz] Willard: As for the charges against me, I am unconcerned. I am beyond their timid lying morality, and so I am beyond caring.

They had this kind of eerie glint in their eye when it was all getting fucking burned. That's what the antiwar movement is all about: showing America that their crazy shit is nuts - and it won't deliver whatever the hell it promises.

Roxanne: The war will still be here tomorrow.

Sometimes I think it's just like what the Willard tells Kurtz in Apocalypse Now:

Kurtz: Did they say why, Willard, why they want to terminate my command?

Willard: I was sent on a classified mission, sir.

Kurtz: It's no longer classified, is it? Did they tell you?

Willard: They told me that you had gone totally insane, and that your methods were unsound.

Kurtz:
Are my methods unsound?

Willard:
I don't see any method at all, sir.

Kurtz: I expected someone like you. What did you expect? Are you an assassin?

Willard: I'm a soldier.

Kurtz: You're neither. You're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill.

The bill is coming due. I don't know much, but I'm pretty fucking sure about that.

All right I'm going to put Brando's bloated rant in here too... If this was the site where God judged everyone should disagree all the time then it makes sense...

Kurtz: I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies.

I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for Polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead.

And I thought: My God... the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us.
