The boring 2010 campaign season featured one hilarious moment categorically different than all the others: the penny drop by one Robert Erickson at Tom Emmer's campaign stop. For More, ColumbusGoHome.com .

Let's go back to where it all began :) Robert Erickson punks the Tea Party against immigration at the Minnesota State Capitol:

It just kinda snowballed from there! Nice work -- the whole effort to carry the immigration debate into the mainstream paid off, along with the efforts of many to connect immigration, Native rights and colonialism in issues like Fort Snelling. I'll tip to that.

The kids ain't all right, with a steady diet of ennui, blinking lights and stimulants, things are looking grim. I bumped into a pile of research about frequently coercive residential education sites for teens and children. It's a troubling area... I feel quite fortunate I never had an upbringing to cross paths with creepy behavior modification like this. Overall my education was pretty cool but that was due to good fortune -- how many smart and awesome people were damaged, traumatized, committed suicide, got abused, raped, etc due to programs like these?

Possibly the most controversial is called Élan School in Maine. A whole batch of Élan material is out there: The Elan School Former Resident Guestbook tumblr.

Élan's official forum posts are left unlocked right now - let's see a really sad one. First phone call | Elan School

Our 13 year old son has been at Elan since May 1. We've been told that he is behaving just as one would expect...lots of behaviour issues. We have finally accepted his last guilt letter and have just set up a date/time for our first phone call to him which is supposed to take place on Wednesday. I am feeling very anxious about speaking with him. He told his staff person that he is planning to try and manipulate me into feeling guilty enough that I will want to take him home. I have no intention of taking him out of the program. Our decision to send him to Elan was made because Mitchell's attitude, behaviour and conduct had reached such offensive proportions that we believed that if we didn't take drastic action he would some day end up either in jail or dead. As it is, the day my husband flew down to see the school, personally hand in his application materials and meet with the admissions team, Mitchell was arrested and charged with criminal charges. Mitchell's attendence at Elan was sanctioned by the crown attorney. Who knows what the outcome of his trial would have been?
The bottom line here is we have our first phone call approaching, we know he is going to manipulate us, and I don't want the phone call to turn into an argument which will leave us angry and disappointed. Does anyone have any advice to help us prepare?

Wow that is a pretty grim Stockholm Syndrome or something remark. The reddit peeps dug thru these pretty well.

Minnesota Teen Challenge in Minneapolis, MN is highly suspected of being a teen torture facility.  Teen Challenge is the only group of programs endorsed by the Drug Free America Foundation (DFAF).  DFAF was founded by Mel Sembler, former owner and director of Straight, Inc. a confirmedly torturous group of institutions for teens.   Straight, Inc. was endorsed by former US presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.  In George W. Bush’s first term (2000-2004) he appointed Mel Sembler as US ambassador to Italy.  George W. Bush instituted the “New Freedom Commission” in 2000.  The “New Freedom Commission” is a group of psychiatrists and pharmaceutical lobbyists working to insure that every child in America is drugged and virtually enslaved through behavior modification.  Please do not sent your child to any Teen Challenge program. Storm the Boards! Applications Nearly Due for Compensated Citizen Slots on Panels and Agencies

I spent quite a while writing up all the open boards and appointments in Minnesota. The official post is here -

http://tc.indymedia.org/2010/nov/storm-boards-applications-nearly-due-compensated-citizen-slots-panels-and-agencies

Just for fun I'll crosspost the whole thing below. Worth yr efforts to get engaged! I posted the full job listing here.

By Dan Feidt for Twin Cities IndymediaDozens of positions on many government panels and committees are open today – but of course this isn’t widely publicized. Some panels pay salaries, others daily expenses or nothing at all. Community members might, or might not, not be able to dramatically shake up obscure panels, but still it’s a good type of post to pick up what’s going on – or how reality becomes bureaucratically remapped. Labor, nonprofit and environmental groups all could easily pick up assigned seats.

Applications are due for consideration November 23rd. The vacancy listings, at the Secretary of State website, include “representative who works in Bicycle Industry” for the Nonmotorized Transportation Advisory Committee, one “Member with Knowledge of Mixed Martial Arts” for the Minnesota Combative Sports Commission, members of the public for the Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training, the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board, the Chicano Latino Affairs Council, the Council on Asian-Pacific Minnesotans, and the Council on Black Minnesotans. Have you got what it takes to be the State Arts Board Member-At-Large?

Below the fold - A few lols, dozens of open panels & Info for sending applications via the SOS website.

Cointelpro Gothic: Docs prove Iowa FBI's Wild Rose Rebellion a pretend RNC "Terrorism Enterprise" for great "statistical accomplishment"

Iowa-American-Gothic-500.jpg

By Dan Feidt for Twin Cities Indymedia - More than 300 newly released pages of Iowa FBI investigation files confirm the existence of a busy network of federal agents across the Midwest dedicated to clamping down on political dissenters. A Freedom of Information Act request by Des Moines' David Goodner revealed two extensive "Terrorism Enterprise" style investigations against dissenters mainly run by the Omaha FBI office into Iowa, including digging through garbage, watching restaurants, advanced data mining and cell phone record collection. The agents involved claimed "statistical accomplishment" of saving our nation from terrorism: this is exactly, how, and why, federal agents endlessly create pretend counterterror campaigns.

More incidents keep spilling out: yet another report from the Department of Justice oversight office (ZIP 2.4MB), the Office of the Inspector General, spelled out the FBI's deception towards Congress in spying on antiwar activists in Pittsburgh and elsewhere. The DOJ-OIG report focuses on FBI spying against meetings at Pittsburgh's Thomas Merton Center, the friendly group which houses Twin Cities Indymedia's counterpart, PGH Independent Media Center, and hosted many IMCers during the 2009 G20. And of course they cheated on tests about surveillance!

Below the fold: How FBI launches counterterror snooping, adds dissidents to terror watchlists!

*********

First a quick related note: Minnesotans' political activities also have been targeted in Pennsylvania, as indicated by the recently exposed confidential state homeland security contract with an Israeli-American 'counter terror' consultancy, paid by taxpayers to spy on the activities of many political dissidents. Both the Pennsylvania case and the Iowa/Omaha investigations targeted Minnesotans because their political activities made them visible. The Pennsylvania homeland security intelligence-gathering contract produced 137 reports called the "Pennsylvania Intelligence Bulletin", which were posted in full on PublicIntelligence.net. Included were entries about the August Conspiracy Tour launched from Minneapolis, mainly cribbed from website info. Along with info about any events involving the controversial Marcellus Shale gas drilling projects, various random anarchist, antiwar and Islamic events and holidays got described in ominous tones. A "Yes Men Save the World" screening could trigger illegal actions, warned the Israeli-American consultants. Download all here ZIP, or browse it on Scribd.com.

Turning back to the Iowa FBI documents, we can learn a number of important structural features about how the FBI's turbocharged domestic terrorism machine targets people, feeds data around, and adds people to the actual main Terrorist Watchlist. A number of interesting features emerge from the Iowa/Omaha FBI investigations, though heavily redacted. The investigation methods including LexisNexis and obscure tracking systems, as well as the propagandizing material distributed among authorities like the infamous tattoo paranoia pamphlet, are laid out in the docs. We can't learn everything, but we can clearly see that federal agents are incentivized to accuse people of more-or-less quasi-terrorism, then claim statistical terrorism accomplishments to advance their careers. The proof is all in these documents. Are you feeling safer yet?

Are you interested in finding out what the Feds have on you? TC Indymedia previously hosted a workshop with Rich Neumeister & Coleen Rowley on how to do FOIA requests like the one that generated this material. Get your FBI FOIA via ACLU-Oregon instructions.

FBI Midwest Anarchist Paranoia: Cases 100A-OM-51967 & 266H-OM-52112 To "Claim Statistical Achievement"For Great Justice!

These excerpts are mostly in sequential order from the document release. They chart the details and results of the FBI's two Iowa spying campaigns, from the kickoff 'predicate' findings to launch the investigation, to scribbled field notes & cell phone logs, to the closing 'cleanup' messages. For more on the cryptic codes, see How to Read an FBI File from HistoryofPhonePhreaking.org. See also FBI Files Abbreviations.

Every FBI case has 'serial' files. A handy tip as seen on the first part we look at: Serial numbers are frequently handwritten in the lower right-hand corner of the front of the document in large letters. They consist of the file number (without the HQ or Field Office identifier) followed by a dash and the serial number.

At the beginning, the FBI Omaha Squad 6, Cedar Rapids Resident Agency or Agent (RA) opens a case titled "Wild Rose Rebellion" on March 12, 2008. SA = Special Agent. You can see this is serial #2 of the whole FBI casefile, 100A-OM-51967. (OM means Omaha, 100A can mean the US Code violation they're suggesting). Classic: the Hoover-Esque bold/typewriter/redacted aesthetic, unchecked federal paranoia at its most pure. This kicks off the "ROUTINE" formalized FBI concept of the Wild Rose Rebellion, from which many Statistical Accomplishments can be claimed, like Nintendo Golden Coins for GMen.

fbi-iowa-kickoff.png

The second page of real material (p13 in the PDF) shows the apparently important 'Accomplishment Information'. Similar things are in a 2005 animal rights-related FOIA posted by the ACLU for example. "Statistical Accomplishments" are a main metric for FBI career progress. According to NorthJersey.com, infamous shock jock & FBI informant/operative Hal Turner boasted of major 'statistical accomplishments'. This is the primary career incentive to fabricate terrorism cases into (and outside) the FBI:
fbi-iowa-accomplishment.png

The next part is interesting because it's essentially the bootup script of an FBI Terrorism Enterprise spying campaign, "document SAC [Special Agent in Charge] Omaha Division authority to open a new Terrorism Enterprise Preliminary Investigation" targeted at a mysterious WILD ROSE REBELLION of Iowa City. Notice the "Attn: Squad 5" area -- all those squads are under Omaha it appears. SSA is Supervisory Special Agent. IA is Intelligence Agent. It looks like Squads 5, 7 and 9 are controlled by Omaha, and further indications of their structure appears later. "Counterterrorism" is probably among the main FBI headquarters branch - more on that below.

The only tangible is the intangible "potentially criminal acts" -- the originating office (OO) is OM - Omaha. What a great title ... case 100A-OM-51967 (Pending) has expanded its Title into the exciting WILD ROSE REBELLION - A RESISTENCE BETWEEN TWO RIVERS aka UNCONVENTIONAL ACTION - MIDWEST; TERRORISM ENTERPRISE INVESTIGATION.

fbi-network1.png

ALL CAPS excitement! "Vacillating" anarchists... The FOIA did not actually produce the TEI (Terrorism Enterprise Investigation) Goals and Objectives, sadly.

fbi-wildroserebellion.png

This next bit includes the magical command words incarnating the FBI's powers to arbitrarily turn yr life upside down. CDC Omaha can "finds the predication for this TEI exists" because it contains essentially anything possibly illegal. (What does CDC acronym mean though?) Clearly here there is no indication of any criteria resembling actual terrorism, namely real threats to people's safety. Instead it is basically proven here: if you try to plan anything illegal then the Midwest FBI TEI Predicate is Good To Go, and the garbage searching and cellphone subpoenas May Commence!

fbi-find-predication.png

What could possibly go wrong? Time to setup a network of federal terror investigations! Interestingly we next find the setting of "leads" in different FBI branches as triggers, as the Omaha FBI office lays total claim of ownership to controlling the WILD ROSE REBELLION situation.

fbi-network-setup.png

The Omaha Field Intelligence Group is activated, as well as the Cedar Rapids Resident Agency.

fbi-network-setup2.png

The next order sets the trigger for collecting drivers license and other data from investigation targets, at least "provides identifying information of [redacted] LNU" ... This is all kicking off in March 2008. Squad 9 is revealed as part of the Field Intelligence Group (FIG), and again OO means Originating Office, OM is Omaha (In the Case ID, OM also means Omaha). LNU means Last Name Unknown.

This one also is Omaha FIG = Yes stamped/checked, kind of an interesting stamp. FBI documents have an unique structure: hidden blocks, key handwritten additions and stamped acts-of-acceptance. Good example here. This info came through the "FIG" or Field Intelligence Group, the purely-FBI-based workgroup in each main FBI field office under the Directorate of Intelligence.

fbi-kickoff-2.png

The methods used to track people they found in Iowa get spelled out to some extent. NCIC is the National Crime Information Center. Interestingly, some secret commercial database and LexisNexis play a major role in investigations. The ACS is the Automated Case Support system, a decidedly antiquated system which SAIC and other contractors have profitably tried, and failed, to replace. (LexisNexis has many special data operations it markets to law enforcement & intelligence - see the Data Analytics Supercomputer & Advanced Investigative Solutions!) Sekrit NexisLexis? Look carefully - federal panopticon typo LOLs=teh best!

fbi-iowa-docs01.png

Federal grant programs finance the production and publication of exciting & ridiculous documents like the "Extremist Symbols, Tattoos and Terminology" pamphlet. (Look for the grant numbers to trace who's riding the gravy train.) They may be referring to a flyer like this one, financed by Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant # 2007-MU-BX-K002, which also spawned a number of other similar goofy advisories across many industries nationwide.

fbi-handout.png

Clearly indicated here: propagandizing law enforcement against anarchist tattoos. The so-called "Joint Terrorism Task Force" layer of operations is clearly the main group involved in Cruising Around.

fbi-iowa-docs02.png

Omaha FBI executed one hell of a garbage surveillance plan in here -- Total Garbage Awareness? The federal garbage surveillance diagrams are amazing--look thru the doc to see them. [Remember, this is where your counter-terror resources were put.]

fbi-iowa-docs03.png

One interesting aspect is how "leads" are formalized and distributed around the anti-Anarchist Fed network. Ramsey County deemed plenty of imaginary information appropriate... Minneapolis considered it covered. Lulz...

fbi-iowa-docs04.png

More interesting stuff from analysts including LexisNexis and Microsoft Streets & Trips.

fbi-iowa-docs05.png

The query system for LexisNexis phone numbers is powerful stuff with records back to 1988 in this case.

fbi-iowa-docs06.png

Not released in FOIA: some CDs that looked like this. Note the case number on discs. Graffiti ticked off Feds real well - they tend to see it as the key symbols to unravelling criminal realities evidently. (100A-OM-51967)

fbi-iowa-docs07.png

The real raw stuff here. The intrepid Joe Fridays and Jack Bauers of the Pretend Time Iowa Rose Rebellion CounterTerrorism Force made lots of notes of comings-and goings when doing active surveillance outside restaurants. You do not want to appear on stuff like this.

fbi-iowa-docs08.png

Just another Minnesota tag parked near Deadwood, in the 21st Century Midwest Surveillance State...

fbi-iowa-docs09.png

Whole Foods!

fbi-iowa-docs10.png

These surveillance photos have not been released yet but their existence is disclosed in the FOIA. "Surveillances" should go into Urban Dictionary.

fbi-iowa-docs12.png fbi-iowa-docs13.png

A lot of Iowa DOT vehicle info collected...

fbi-iowa-docs14.png

Direct Action Skill Share recording at College Green park - content not shared on this FOIA, but weird looking snazzy pic included ["Hi-8 Videocassette" looks photoshopped?] Everyone coming & going got logged, but apparently no audio they claim.

fbi-iowa-docs15.png

Now the structure of overall Joint Terrorism Task Force busywork comes into view. We can see the Iowa City spy project gave the University of Iowa Public Safety and Coralville JTTF officers something to do. TFO means Task Force Officer. SA is Special Agent. It's worth wondering whether University of Minnesota JTTF-related officers are spying on groups like SDS - this is really where data requests could reveal what is going on at the state level. What accountability can University of Iowa students obtain towards the Iowa Joint Terrorism Task Force?

fbi-iowa-docs16.png

The ever-popular US Attorneys Office (USAO) of the Southern District of Iowa (motto: "MOAR Corn & Creative Paranoia") "stated their support of opening a criminal investigation" . No one ever picked up any federal charges resembling this stuff, yet the mere hypothetical prospect of it was more than enough for the South Iowa Justice League to back this thing up. You can really have a lot of fun in these cases without ticking off any rich white people.

fbi-iowa-docs17.png

Again this gives away that it has nothing to do with 'real terrorism', instead the looser "apparent willingness to risk arrest at the RNC conceivably by violating the criminal laws" is the threshold for make total orwell.

fbi-iowa-docs18.png

Gotta check "each" everyone & see what goals they're trying to further when "their continued association with individuals/groups who espouse disrupting the RNC":

fbi-iowa-docs19.png

Heavily redacted RNC arrest reports follow, and the investigation gets wound down because they apparently have nothing on anyone from Iowa. It's time to claim FBI bonus points. Omaha Squad 6 / Cedar Rapids Resident Agency claims POSITIVE TERRORISM Statistical Accomplishment on September 9, 2008. This appears to be the main work product of the investigation. Even though there wasn't any terrorism... Bravo FBI Cedar Rapids Resident Agent Squad 6!

fbi-iowa-docs20.png

Again - "Statistical Accomplishment," especially easy pretend accomplishments, are the Coin of The Realm in career advancement -- this is proof of a crucial reason why individual federal agents are motivated to create fake terrorism situations. Squad 6 is definitely with Cedar Rapids Resident Agent (or Agency) and apparently contactable via a Special Agent (not a Resident Agent).

fbi-iowa-docs21.png

The October 21, 2008 has another helpful batch of notifications. DTOU is the national FBI Domestic Terrorism Operations Unit (see this OIG report involving the 2004 RNC/DNC & DTOU investigations). "DT" means Domestic Terrorism.

fbi-iowa-docs22.png

The "Anarchists Team" appears a subteam of "Domestic Terrorism Operations 5" under the national FBI command structure. (Or not? Justice.gov FBI counterterror org chart). Thus did the Feds "DT-OPS 5 Anarchists Team" get revealed. Squads 5, 7 and 9 appear to be inside Omaha FBI as noted above.

fbi-iowa-docs23.png

DT-OPS 5 and "Anarchists Teams" proven via the Leads connections to the Domestic Terrorism Operations Unit.

fbi-iowa-docs24.png

The log file of surveillance files, with that anachronistic FBI line-printer charm we know and love. This index shows how Case ID 100A-OM-51967 is appended #20-26 items originating with Omaha field office.

fbi-iowa-docs25.png

Squad 6 definitely has the Cedar Rapids Resident Agent.

fbi-iowa-docs26.png

These are FBI case file numbers...

fbi-iowa-docs27.png

But why have one case when you can have two? Starting June 3rd, 2008, time to kick off yet another FBI investigation, case 266H-OM-52112, which got dumped right into the Terrorism filez. The 2008RNC spawned more espionage dubbed "spin-off" cases. Toll record information is cell phone info, and lots of it. Lots. The analysts combed all the numbers called, hundreds, and wrote about the patterns including how voicemails worked.

fbi-spinoff.png

The goal is to find out if they are bad kids! A nice open-ended investigation, conveniently without a concrete base in any crimes.

fbi-spinoff2.png

This spin-off case sends its targets' info into TREX. TREX is the FBI Terrorist Review and Examination Unit. VGTOF is the Violent Gang and Terrorist Organization File, run by the NCIC. VGTOF and TREX are basically the Terrorism Watch List system, as well as sources for the Investigative Data Warehouse, which is referenced elsewhere, and the Terrorist Screening Database. So yes if you land here, you are basically referenced as a terrorist to the Feds.

fbi-iowa-docs28.png

A ton of cell phone records get traced thoroughly, FBI analysts looking for connections. They did not censor a lot of phone numbers.

fbi-cellphone.png

This is all about targeting Minnesotans. I blocked out all the numbers in red -- probably they were released by the FBI because the phone record belongs to its owner.

Squad 9 is connected to the Des Moines Resident Agency and Omaha FBI Field Intelligence Group.

fbi-iowa-docs29.png

Again we see the layout of several squads concerned with anarchists. The first branch seems to be the national set, the Squad 5/7/9 are controlled by Omaha.

fbi-iowa-docs30.png

The pages sent near the dates of the RNC are heavily censored, but they had to shut both cases down by the end of 2008. This is how you say FAIL in FBI Orwell Speak, including pulling "You == Terrorist" entries out of VGTOF. Sadly US Attorneys of Southern District of Iowa had to fold up their fishing expedition, but with whetted appetites they would soon be back for Scott & Carrie!

fbi-fail.png

"Set Lead" upon Close Case Investigation: Triggers set to activate FBI Anarchists Teams, and also to pull out the hapless targets from the VGTOF and TREX terrorist files!

fbi-iowa-docs31.png

And that's pretty much how two heavily censored FBI terrorism investigation FOIA reports map out.

We've learned quite a bit about how each FBI case can easily lead to getting placed in the TREX/VGTOF terrorist tracking database without any real finding of threatening evidence. Again refer to getting your FBI FOIA info via ACLU-Oregon, and it might be amusing to bug your elected officials about how this whole Cointelpro Gothic scheme really works.

This report was mostly written just before the Minneapolis antiwar activist FBI raids on Sept 24 2010. Weird week... Contact hongpong@hongpong.com . The Pentagon Officially Hatez William Mitchell, Gates Determines NO FEDFUNDS FOR YOU!

A hat tip to the William Mitchell College of Law, which despite a few shady cats hangin round the faculty (lookin at you ex-CIA attorney 2002-2004 & neocon pal John Radsan). BTW Radsan CYA yabbin on CIA tapes coverup in a rlly bad Flash encode:

Anyhow besides that guy (who is oft spotted around the neighborhood, lurking in a CIA lawyer kinda way) Mitchell is overall a badass rebel in the Pentagon's educational control matrix known as Full Spectrum Dominance For Square Hat Pwns. This is mainly because the military got booted off for its anti-gay policies.

"Student Directory Information" for the Pentagon is its own interesting reality, perhaps more applicable to finding targets in economically depressed middle and high schools.

Palin Bachmann: 2010 GOP Convention Center Rally Heralds Another Election Season of Stuff

Scored tickets & blogger access to the Palin-Bachmann event, surely the best GOP show of the season...
DSC_0795-1fosterkids.jpg

A mellow crowd greeted Minnesota's top Republicans, ready to slug out another election season. There isn't much new news to report, but Andrew French (@tacomachine) got really nice photos and we got a sense the Republicans will spend another month in primary mode then shift gears immediately upon endorsement, which'll also be at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Palin wrote "23 foster kids!" on her hand & the shot was snagged... ftw!
DSC_0891.JPG
This is about as smooth as it gets for the MnGOP -- renting out Hall D must be a pretty penny. Mostly polite, overall not a lot of jeering or latent, charged weirdness seen in other rallies & increasingly freaky situations lately.
DSC_0398 1.JPG
Since it was in the middle of the day there were a lot of 60+ Grand Old Party Faithful and they aren't as agitated as the younger & more desperate.
DSC_0517 1.JPG
Bachmann seemingly declared at one point that America was now 51% government controlled, but entirely private before the corrupt Democrats' bailout. How many of these attendees are on Medicare? Seriously, Palin et al continue to sell the idea Medicare never existed or something...
DSC_0431 1.JPG So... head's up to Minnesota Democrats, in the governor's race the GOP has organized its game while the DFL situation has settled into a complex, boring multi-tiered affair with avid promises of a long, bitter primary election. Also Rep. Dan Severson has entered the race for Secretary of State (a bit of background) vs Mark Ritchie.
Overall living within the big fuzzy DFL dominated Minneapolis political scene, one can easily overlook that the Republicans are seriously organized. They don't seem to have any new message this year in general (today's exciting cyber/nuclear attack riff aside) but in Minnesota the state Republican Party's whole top-level team has been turned over and this is their first big-deal off-year election.
Somewhat more than in 2008, Palin/Bachmann are pretty polished in presentation and the usual riffs. It's hard to say what's likely to captivate American voters this year but the new season's buzzwords and phrases are getting launched without delay. Overall a pretty determined ruthlessness emerged between Palin, Bachmann, Gov. Tim Pawlenty, US Reps Erik Paulsen & John Kline, plus Party Chair Tony Sutton and new Deputy Michael Brodkorb, Sen. Dave Senjem (R-Rochester) and Minority Leader Kurt Zellers. They seemed quite at ease and seem to think the pendulum is finally swinging their way. [Disclosure: I built a campaign website for Dan Powers, one of Kline's DFL opponents - the CD2 endorsement battle is Saturday.]

My gut tells me the Dems are seriously overconfident... it happens every damn time. The DNC sent this out today according to a story from the Strib:

"Like peas in a pod, these two darlings of the extreme right-wing fringe not only spout the most hateful and incendiary rhetoric in the public discourse today, but are also the faces of the new Republican Party," ... "From these two we have heard nothing but fear and lies — from death panels to warning of a coming apocalypse — and today's rally shouldn't be any different. If these two represent the 'gold standard' of the Republican Party, the only apocalypse the GOP should be concerned with is their own."

DSC_0606 1.JPG

Chris Matthews was "dazzled" by Palin/Bachmann star power the Strib notes: MSNBC talk show host Chris Matthews proclaimed himself "dazzled" by Bachmann's and Palin's speeches Wednesday, suggesting they may be "the new star power of the right."

****

There wasn't much in the way of handout political material besides RPM election judge flyers and the candidates' tables. However one downside to the Minneapolis Convention Center is its more expensive to work as a vendor than other spots. Usually the GOP-friendly orgs tabling at other events have quirky/funny fliers.
The Magical Merging of Everyday Modern Stagecraft: I want the FOX Boomcam

DSC_0941.JPG

Whenever Fox and the conservatives seamlessly blend categorically 'distinct' things like electoralism, religion, and corporate news, film theory helps because the construct of the Spectacle is situational and the thing in itself is weird. An important feature of the whole 'flow' was the FOX broadcasting mise-en-scene.
DSC_0299 1.JPG DSC_0297 1.JPG
This FOX camera was epic, a digital monster swooping & peering around the space, giving Fox News epic crowd footage. We can make a sequel to Lord of the Rings with a rig like this... You're all ants to the boom cam. DSC_0944.JPG
This magnifies how the whole scene is in the diegetic space of the Fox studio -- plus boxes of Hannity books had been delivered directly to the Convention Center.

DSC_0267 1.JPG
The Spectacle of the mainstream parties' rallies try to summon forth and captivate the Faithful with the imagery of the imagined America. Everything today gets subsumed into Hannity's Interstate-based logo motif and his heroic theme, 'Conservative Victory in America.' The way this symbolic frame arced over the domed space was interesting.
DSC_0920.JPG
And he throws his damn football like a Republican!

The art of riding the 'flow' that Fox jumps onto, as Sam Stein put it criticizing the Murdoch-TeaParty FNC sponsoring gig, lets modes or 'media' of symbolic exchange play out against the image of bitter Democrats that've Shattered America. Anyone who can play off the new phrases, bounce from one to another with a wink and a grin, under the safe retreat of the Fox Mental Space the Phoenix can rise again.
Check how Palin's yellow earpiece wire travels up into the middle of her hair. Bachmann has one too.
DSC_0935.JPG
This is the 'whoop it up' guy with an ALL ACCESS pass cuing the audience, unclear who he worked for but these 'cheering masses segments' always have one.
DSC_0929.JPG
One other thing -- Palin's inspired a lot of fashion purchases. The crushed velvet/black faceted jewel thing looked like a SyFy/Farscape kind of look.
DSC_0855.JPG
This one has a nice flash glow -

DSC_0789 1.JPG
Also caduceus-styled American flag pin means what?
DSC_0786 1.JPG

DSC_0779 1.JPG
That is really some ace lighting, the Republicans are focused on these kinds of things.
DSC_0776 1.JPG
Fun with mediated juxtaposition.
DSC_0755 1.JPG
Zooming towards freedom? The contrast/sharpened videoscreen adds so much more.
DSC_0658 1.JPG
Palin had heel/lift action.
DSC_0656 1.JPG
The screen images were projected from the back actually - I think 2 projectors.

This is really a pretty good reference / file photo style
DSC_0538 1.JPG
That is hair with volume...

ZOMBIE PAWLENTY - BRAINS 2010. You get a lot of crazy frames like this with rapid SLR cameras. They make good fodder for caricatures.
DSC_0446 1.JPG
GOP Deputy Chair Michael Brodkorb lookin pleased, he's been getting stuff like the text messaging & hashtags going.
DSC_0433 1.JPG
GOP Party Chair Tony Sutton, he also runs Baja Sol.

TC Indymedia gives a new look at the infamous Robert Erickson Tea Party punk with crowd reactions and the assault on a counter-protester in HD. This speech exposed the hypocrisy of the white supremacist, racist & xenophobic rhetoric of the right-wing extremists, who use dangerous imagery to frame the immigration debate. Meanwhile in Minnesota the Dakota people control .006% of their original land base, which was stolen via fraudulent treaties, genocide and ethnic cleansing. http://tc.indymedia.org Robert Erickson Fans on Facebook!! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Robert-Erickson/180486194893

GOP CONVENTION COORDINATOR RESIGNS

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- The 2008 Republican National Convention today accepted the resignation of convention coordinator Doug Goodyear. Mr. Goodyear issued the following statement on his resignation:

“Today I offered the convention my resignation so as not to become a distraction in this campaign. I continue to strongly support John McCain for president, and wish him the best of luck in this campaign.”

###

image003.png

What ever could be the matter? Oh damn, their chief Convention Flack took a ton of cash to work promoting the Burmese junta in Washington.

Exactly like Duke's excellent work for Berzerkistan on Doonesbury:

db071016.gif

db071018.gif

I mean, exactly like Duke. $348,000 buys a lot of sleep, I bet.

Yeah, the chief RNC St. Paul organizer guy worked for that torture-insanity-what-the-hell Burmese military Dictatorship. Newsweek shook it loose!

McCain's Convention Chair Worked for Burma's Military Junta | Newsweek Periscope | Newsweek.com:

After John McCain nailed down the Republican nomination in March, his campaign began wrestling with a sensitive personnel issue: who would manage this summer's GOP convention in St. Paul, Minn.? The campaign recently tapped Doug Goodyear for the job, a veteran operative and Arizonan who was chosen for his "management experience and expertise," according to McCain press secretary Jill Hazelbaker. But some allies worry that Goodyear's selection could fuel perceptions that McCain—who has portrayed himself as a crusader against special interests—is surrounded by lobbyists. Goodyear is CEO of DCI Group, a consulting firm that earned $3 million last year lobbying for ExxonMobil, General Motors and other clients.

Potentially more problematic: the firm was paid $348,000 in 2002 to represent Burma's military junta, which had been strongly condemned by the State Department for its human-rights record and remains in power today. Justice Department lobbying records show DCI pushed to "begin a dialogue of political reconciliation" with the regime. It also led a PR campaign to burnish the junta's image, drafting releases praising Burma's efforts to curb the drug trade and denouncing "falsehoods" by the Bush administration that the regime engaged in rape and other abuses. "It was our only foreign representation, it was for a short tenure, and it was six years ago," Goodyear told NEWSWEEK, adding the junta's record in the current cyclone crisis is "reprehensible."

Another issue: DCI has been a pioneer in running "independent" expenditure campaigns by so–called 527 groups, precisely the kind of operations that McCain, in his battle for campaign-finance reform, has denounced. In 2004, the DCI Group led a pro-Bush 527 called Progress for America, which was later fined (along with several other 527s on both sides of the political divide) for violating federal election laws. Goodyear, however, says that DCI is "not in the 527 business anymore."

Ironically, Goodyear was chosen for the post after the McCain campaign nixed another candidate, Paul Manafort, who runs a lobbying firm with McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis. The prospect of choosing Manafort created anxiety in the campaign because of his long history of representing controversial foreign clients, including Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos. More recently, he served as chief political consultant to Viktor Yanukovich, the former Ukrainian prime minister who has been widely criticized for alleged corruption and for his close ties to Russia's Vladimir Putin—a potential embarrassment for McCain, who in 2007 called Putin a "totalitarian dictator." "The Ukrainian stuff was viewed as too much," says one McCain strategist, who asked not to be identified discussing the matter. Manafort did not return calls for comment.

Then: Stumper : McCain Convention Manager Resigns After NEWSWEEK Reveals Burma Ties

Andrew Romano

Around noon today, the powers-that-be at NEWSWEEK posted "A Convention Quandary" on our website. In the story, investigative ace Michael Isikoff reported that the man chosen by John McCain's presidential campaign to run this summer's GOP convention--Arizonan Doug Goodyear--was causing some headaches within the ranks. The problem? Goodyear is CEO ofDCI Group, a consulting firm that earned $3 million last year lobbying for ExxonMobil, General Motors and other clients--not the most convenient association for a candidate who's already struggling to reconcile his reputation as an anti-special interests crusader with the sizable number of lobbyists on his senior staff. Further complicating matters: Isikoff's revelation that DCI was paid $348,000 in 2002 to represent Burma's military junta, leading "a PR campaign to burnish the junta's image, drafting releases praising Burma's efforts to curb the drug trade and denouncing 'falsehoods' by the Bush administration that the regime engaged in rape and other abuses." Ouch.

Apparently, Goodyear agreed.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, the Republican National Convention announced that it had accepted Goodyear's resignation, setting a new land speed record for shortest time lapsed between the "story breaks" and "ax falls" phases of a political scandal. "Today I offered the convention my resignation so as not to become a distraction in this campaign," said Goodyear in written statement. "I continue to strongly support John McCain for president, and wish him the best of luck in this campaign." Asked later by the Politico whether Team McCain had given him the boot, Goodyear said no. "My decision," he added. "[It was] unambiguously the right thing to do."

Nice.... Say what you will, who could possibly be more evil than a public relations strategist for an evil, corrupt Asian dictatorship?!
