Facebook Twitter HTTP security shown as hosed by teh Firesheep - now epic wifi kiddies for great justice

Sound advice (to the extent anything on the internet is really secure ha):

  • Change your passwords, and logout of everything
  • Do not use open WiFi to login to Facebook, Twitter or anything else
  • Use only a hard-wired connection until this subsides
  • Do not check the “remember my password” box

A Firefox extension called Firesheep by Eric Butler (full explanation) demonstrates that HTTP cookies are very vulnerable to intercept and splice an attacker right into the sessions. Twitter and Facebook can be grabbed trivially. You can also write your own plugins. It is just an easy front-end user interface for accessing an extremely common vulnerability - and its open source release to the public is intended to show everyone the cookie status quo is hopelessly broken.

You gotta check out the presentation at Toorcon12 http://codebutler.github.com/firesheep/tc12/#1

Raw Milk Revolution, police state for calories & moar: FDA's war on food contracts

Raw Milk Revolution also explores the debate between the germ theory of illness, to which Western (allopathic) medicine subscribes, and the holistic theory (homeopathic), which the probiotics community hails. One seeks to wipe out all microbes (via drugs, vaccines and pasteurization) to make food sterile. The other recognizes that microbes act in accord with the biological terrain in which they live, and so promotes consuming live foods that boost “friendly” bacteria. (Thischart, which also appears in the book, nicely lays out the differences. For a more detailed explanation, see Biological Terrain vs Germ Theory.)

Gumpert quotes the probiotic argument: “People certainly can and do get sick from pathogens, but they do so because of failures in their own immune systems, rather than because the germs are so strong.” He then refers to “an entire body of research [that] has emerged on the benefits of probiotics in preventing illness.”

Recognizing this ideological difference, Salatin asks, “Is not freedom to choose our food at least as fundamental a right as the freedom to worship?”

Cyberwar what? This sounds not good U.S. Says Military Can Respond to Domestic Cyberthreats - NYTimes.com- commentary - Obama Tells Pentagon to Attack “Cyberthreats” On American Soil -

NYT! The system would mirror that used when the military is called on in natural disasters like hurricanes or wildfires. A presidential order dispatches the military forces, working under the control of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Under the new rules, the president would approve the use of the military’s expertise in computer-network warfare, and the Department of Homeland Security would direct the work.

Officials involved in drafting the rules said the goal was to ensure a rapid response to a cyberthreat while balancing concerns that civil liberties might be at risk should the military take over such domestic operations.

The rules were deemed essential because most of the government’s computer-network capabilities reside within the Pentagon — while most of the important targets are on domestic soil, whether within the government or in critical private operations like financial networks or a regional power grid.

The new approach will begin with a Department of Homeland Security team deploying to Fort Meade, Md., home to both the National Security Agency, which specializes in electronic espionage, and the military’s new Cyber Command. In exchange, a team of military networking experts would be assigned to the operations center at the Homeland Security Department.

The rules were detailed in a memorandum of agreement signed in late September by Janet Napolitano, the secretary of homeland security, and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, but they were not released until last week.

Denninger calls out corporatist Tea Party Takeover - Denninger, early inventor of the Tea Party motif, announces it's all been taken over by the right wing vanguard - turning scrutiny away from the vast federal economic disaster, business & etc. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/tea-party-founder-slams-tea-party/ - on the video cenk gets lol for noting brilliant cooption:

"Yeah, that's a joke," he writes. "But so are you. All of you. Especially Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, and douchebag groups such as the 'Tea Party Patriots.'"

Denninger writes: "Tea Party my ass. This was nothing other than the Republican Party stealing the anger of a population that was fed up with the Republican Party's own theft of their tax money at gunpoint to bail out the robbers of Wall Street and fraudulently redirecting it back toward electing the very people who stole all the ****ing money!"

Denninger runs Market Ticker, a financially-focused blog that has been strongly opposed to bank bailouts and has railed against excessive government spending. He founded the group FedUpUSA in early 2008, shortly after the collapse of investment bank Bear Stearns........

"The Tea Party was initiated as a political protest against the unlawful and in fact unconstitutional usurpation of power from the Congress and The People in the form of extortion-led bailouts of enterprises that had engaged in acts that I, and many others, believe were at least civilly actionable and in many cases crossed the line into criminal activity.

"This indictment is not limited to the nation's large banks, although it certainly starts there. The corruption of our economic and monetary systems runs the gamut from Fannie and Freddie through their ties to Congress (including literal sexual encounters in some cases), banking interests selling trash securities to everyone from pension funds on down, judges who don't judge but rather protect monied interests on Wall Street, The Federal Reserve intentionally debasing our currency and monetizing government debt, government spending that is running 40% above revenues and much more.

"In short, The Tea Party was and is about the the corruption of American Politics and the blatant and outrageous theft from all Americans that has resulted. It is about personal responsibility and enforcement of the law against those who have robbed, financially ****d and pillaged the nation.

Yet today we hear literally nothing about these issues among the so-called "Tea Party" candidates and their backers. Sarah Palin has not said one word about locking up the banksters that brought up on the housing bubble and economic collapse. Not one word about Bernanke's out-of-control Fed and the arguably unlawful monetization of Fannie and Freddie paper, not to mention the monetization of the Federal Debt.

Inside the Global Banking Intelligence Complex! What a fun essay going on here: David DeGraw :

To get a more complete understanding of our current crisis, we need to look at the history of events that led up to it. We need to peer deeply into the inner workings of the Global Banking Intelligence Complex. Without acknowledging and exposing the covert forces that are aligned against us, we will not be able to effectively overcome them.

In the past I have shied away from going too deeply into the details of the intelligence world out of fear of being written off and dismissed as a conspiracy theorist. If I hadn’t spent the majority of the past 20 years investigating global financial intelligence operations, I certainly wouldn’t believe half of this myself. Given the severity of our current crisis and the imminent devastating implications, I now realize that I must go deeper into covert activities than I publicly ever have. The information I am about to report is very well-sourced and documented, and needs to be covered before we can proceed to exposing present operations.

I: All Roads Go Through BCCI

Here is a partial list of the economic and political scandals that I investigated throughout the 1980s and early ’90s:

  • The Savings & Loan scandal;
  • Stock market manipulation and money laundering;
  • Iran-Contra Affair;
  • The October Surprise and Iran hostage crisis;
  • Iraqgate-BNL and the rise and funding of Saddam Hussein;
  • Pakistan’s nuclear program and the selling of bomb-making technology to Libya, Iran and North Korea;
  • The rise and funding of the Afghan Mujahideen (founding and funding of the Taliban and Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network);
  • Illegal weapon sales to Iran and Saudi Arabia;
  • The proliferation of Middle Eastern terrorism;
  • The international drug trade run by people like Manuel Noriega and Pablo Escobar.

All of these scandals had one vital thing in common, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI).

In December 1992, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Terrorism, Narcotics and International Operations delivered a report on their investigation into the bank, entitled “The BCCI Affair.” The report would disclose the largest political corruption case in the history of the global economy. As the Senate Committee summed it up:

“BCCI’s criminality included fraud by BCCI and BCCI customers involving billions of dollars; money laundering in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas; BCCI’s bribery of officials in most of those locations; support of terrorism, arms trafficking, and the sale of nuclear technologies; management of prostitution; the commission and facilitation of income tax evasion, smuggling, and illegal immigration; illicit purchases of banks and real estate; and a panoply of financial crimes limited only by the imagination of its officers and customers.

Among BCCI’s principal mechanisms for committing crimes were its use of shell corporations and bank confidentiality and secrecy havens; layering of its corporate structure; its use of front-men and nominees, guarantees and buy-back arrangements; back-to-back financial documentation among BCCI controlled entities, kick-backs and bribes, the intimidation of witnesses, and the retention of well-placed insiders to discourage governmental action.

The BCCI scandal gave citizens of the world a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the covert global banking intelligence power structure, revealing power politics in its purest form. BCCI was modeled after the world’s most powerful intelligence agencies and multinational corporations. It represented the evolution of organized crime into the new world of the global economy, rendering nation-states obsolete. BCCI transcended religions and nationalities; it cut across the entire political spectrum, uniting countries and groups that, on the surface, were considered rivals, yet were unified in their pursuit of power.

BCCI consisted of a complex alliance of intelligence agencies, multinational corporations, weapons dealers, drug traffickers, terrorists, global bankers and high-ranking government officials. It involved leaders from 73 countries and formed what was described as “an elaborate corporate spider web.”

As former US Senate investigator Jack Blum described it:

“The problem that we are all having in dealing with this bank is that… it had 3,000 criminal customers and every one of those 3,000 criminal customers is a page one story. So if you pick up on one of [BCCI's] accounts you could find financing from nuclear weapons, gun running, narcotics dealing, and you will find all manner and means of crime around the world in the records of this bank.”

California rolls out heat cannon torture weapon Active Denial System, "When space age death rays are outlawed only outlaws will have space age death rays"

Oh Shit!!!

Let's explain how the mass torture weapon deployment rollout program works in the global scientific dictatorship. First the weapons are used on brown people in the field by the military, then on military prisoners, then on domestic prisoners. Then on protesters, then on random people. This is all part of a psychological conditioning process, intended in part to induce traumatic conditions in protesters & others. The good news is that when they bring this microwave cannon to the 2012 Democratic & Republican conventions, it can be defeated by tinfoil.

Here was the 60 Minutes segment earlier - *surprise* now it's in prisons. Your insane federal grant programs at work.

L.A. jail tests 'intolerable heat' beam on brawling inmates – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs. Great comment that "When space age death rays are outlawed only outlaws will have space age death rays" on this thread. Also something like a microwave generator w. battery pack could probably work at close ranges.

c1main.la.aid.jail.jpg

Officials at a Los Angeles County jail plan to test out an invisible heat-beam weapon originally developed by the military as a way to subdue brawling inmates by making them feel "intolerable heat."

The technology, called an Assault Intervention Device, is a non lethal-weapon developed by Raytheon Company. It originally was scaled down for use at the jail.

The device "emits a focused beam of wave energy that travels at the speed of light and produces an intolerable heating sensation that causes targeted individuals to flee. The sensation immediately ceases when the targeted individual moves away from the beam," according to Raytheon's website.

Deputies have tested the device, which is controlled by a jail officer using a joystick.

"We believe that technology can help solve problems facing the corrections community, including addressing issues of inmate violence," Sheriff Lee Baca said during a news conference. "The Assault Intervention Device appears uniquely suited to address some of the more difficult inmate violence issues without the drawbacks of tools currently available to us."

"This device will allow us to quickly intervene without having to enter the area and without incapacitating or injuring either combatant," Baca added.

Officials say they hope the device can help quell inmate assaults and reduce prison violence. Its use will be monitored by the U.S. Department of Justice's National Institute of Justice and Pennsylvania State University.

The device was installed and is being tested at Pitchess Detention Center at the L.A. County jail in Castaic, California.

That jail was the site of a 200-inmate brawl this weekend in which inmates threw rocks and debris at officers, who were attempting to stop them from entering a restricted area, according to CNN affiliate KTLA.

KTLA reported the brawl lasted for an hour before tear gas and non-lethal weapons were used. CNN is awaiting comment on whether the new Assault Intervention Device was employed during the brawl.

Raytheon Company: Features: Active Denial System //

Active Denial is a revolutionary non-lethal protection system that employs millimeter wave technology to repel individuals without causing injury. The system provides a zone of protection that saves lives, protects assets and minimizes collateral damage. Active Denial emits a focused beam of wave energy that travels at the speed of light and produces an intolerable heating sensation that causes targeted individuals to flee. The sensation immediately ceases when the targeted individual moves away from the beam.

Raytheon has produced and delivered three Active Denial Systems to the U.S. Air Force customer. Raytheon has also built one Silent Guardian™ system that is roughly 1/3 the size and power of the other Active Denial Systems.

Active Denial and Silent Guardian are part of a family of Directed Energy solutions produced by Raytheon. Those solutions include the Vigilant Eagle Airport Protection System, Laser Area Defense System and Direct Infrared Counter Measure Systems.

Active Denial System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The Active Denial System (ADS) is a less-lethal, directed-energy weapon developed by the U.S. military.[1]It is a strong millimeter-wave transmitter primarily used for crowd control (the "goodbye effect"[2]). Some ADS such as HPEM ADS are also used to disable vehicles.[3] Informally, the weapon is also called heat ray.[4] Raytheon is currently marketing a reduced-range version of this technology.[5] The ADS was deployed in 2010 with the United States military in Afghanistan, but was withdrawn without seeing combat.

Augh to hell with this...

First Amendment issue of our Time; Google & Verizon deal putting Net Neutrality & my industry on the chopping block. Franken, Ellison, Klobuchar: What's going on?

Currently the Internets, at the lowest level, is a freeway. That is, when I want to get traffic from site A B or C, there is no corporate toll structure slowing my traffic down. But obviously, the owners of the telecom pipes, and increasingly the bigger, more monopolistic and oligopoly-friendly players, want to slow down traffic against their competitors and independent players.

After news emerged this week that Google and Verizon are planning to cut a deal to privilege tiers of corporate-related Internet traffic at the expense of everyone else, (Google denies it in a suspiciously surly fashion) a wave of concern ricocheted around Internets that the end of Net Neutrality might have finally arrived.

I heartily agree with FreePress.net's urgency on the matter, and sent a Freepress petition with my own remarks into my elected officials. So far a Sen. Franken emailbot sent me a receipt, but nothing at all from Sen. Klobuchar. Rep. Ellison's office sent a quick receipt and now a reasonable enough response.

Another dimension of this battle involves the venue of regulation: the FCC could theoretically implement a "good" rule through its administrative process, and/or through Congress. Apparently FreePress trusts the FCC more than Congress right now, and it's certainly true that the telecom industry pretty much has effective control of Congress. Thus, HR 3458, as advocated by Rep. Ellison, is a risky strategy. Rep. Alan Grayson, darling of progressives and fiscal hawks for his challenges to the Federal Reserve, has let em down by backing away from the FCC approach (as well as expressing the usual AIPAC-friendly foreign policy stance).

Franken, saying it's the First Amendment issue of our time, has gone well out of his way to raise attention about Net Neutrality, most recently at the Netroots conference on July 24th. I got a basic answer from Ellison which seems reasonable enough for now.

With that in mind I sent this in via the FreePress.net wizardry, and I encourage you to send one too. This issue cuts across all political orientations, leaving only the Oblivious, Astroturfoids and Fans of Corporate Authoritarians against it. We all deserve to be bored by DailyKos and RedState content alike, at the same speed.

I am terrified that large corporate lobbies and the establishment in general are systematically trying to destroy the free Internet, and shut down and impede as many non-corporate sources of information as possible. Also, the recent deletion of 70,000+ blogs because of an apparently fake Al Qaeda magazine, due to some strange process by fiat of the Department of Homeland Security, is deeply troubling and lacks any due process. (Do you really think Al Qaeda suggests its supporters contact them over GMail, as the magazine states? How dumb is that?!)

The recent work by pro-lockdown legislators to narrow a needed proposed shield law, to exclude websites like Wikileaks, is also appalling and totally at odds with all the principles that have made our country economically viable, as well as a genuine marketplace of ideas. Responsibility for violating overgrown and corrupt secrecy rules falls not with websites, but with whoever violates their oath not to propagate sensitive information. I am disgusted that newspaper lobbyists are working to suppress protection for excellent websites like Cryptome.org that actually shed sunlight on the staggeringly vast wastes of Top Secret America.

The effort to destroy Net Neutrality and replace Internet service priority rules with cartel structures and deals will surely damage the US economy deeply, and give corporate fatcats the upper hand yet again to squelch the new avenues of information rapidly making them obsolete. This week it was reported Verizon and Google are nearing a deal to destroy Net Neutrality on Google-powered Verizon devices, and this kind of arrangement is fundamentally no different than Rockefeller, Carnegie, Standard Oil and other inefficient monopolist systems of previous eras. We will never get out of this deep economic collapse if legislation protecting fatcats is the only work product from Washington DC.

I work as a Web developer, developing sites for many people. The agenda against Net Neutrality is most directly an agenda against my clients, who deserve to make their sites available on equitable network standards. This is nothing more than cartels versus independent producers. How can my industry remain viable, let alone vibrant, if Net Neutrality gets destroyed by politicians and corporate lobbyists?

I agree with everything added below by FreePress.net:
Net Neutrality is the cornerstone of innovation, free speech and democracy on the Internet.

More than 1.9 million Americans have expressed support for Net Neutrality at Congress and the FCC. They want control over the Internet to remain in the hands of the people who use it every day.

Please stand with the public by protecting Net Neutrality once and for all.

Rep. Ellison's response:

August 6, 2010

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for contacting me about H.R. 3458, the Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2009 and net neutrality. I am honored to hear from you and proud to represent you in the United States Congress.

The Internet has become an integral part of our everyday lives. We utilize it daily for communications, commerce, business, education and research. I believe we must ensure that Internet access is universal and open to all lawful content and information. I share your sentiments regarding Internet freedom and further, I consider freedom to access the Internet on par with American rights to free press.

As you may know, there is increasing concern that the owners of the local broadband connections may block or discriminate against certain Internet users or applications in order to give an advantage to their own services. While owners of local networks have a legitimate right to manage traffic on their network to prevent congestion and viruses, they should not be able to block or degrade traffic based on the identity of the user or the type of application solely to favor their own interests. Like you, I am concerned that the ability of network providers to prioritize Internet traffic may give them too much power over the operation of, and access to, the Internet.

Currently, the Internet Freedom Preservation Act (H.R. 3458) is under consideration by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. While I do not serve on this Committee, please know that I will be certain to keep your views in mind as H.R. 3458 moves through the legislative process, and ultimately to the House floor for a vote.

As always, please feel free to contact me on this or any issue of concern. Sign up for our e-newsletter by visiting www.ellison.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Keith Ellison

Got BitLocker? Feel a bit r00ted???

201002282254.jpg

[It was later posted that this full Windows 7 law enforcement pack was actually originally posted on the very cool newer site PublicIntelligence.net: Microsoft Windows 7/Vista Advanced Forensics Guides for Law Enforcement | Public Intelligence ]

In a continuation of the excitement around Microsoft's confidential Law Enforcement guide hitting Cryptome.org, now several more Law Enforcement Sensitive PDFs about Windows 7 have been posted, including a lot of detailed information about examining BitLocker drive encryption and potentially cracking it: "We can also see the Recovery Key ID number" and a series of hex addresses, it says (win7-bit-spy.pdf p 67).

With all the guides Cryptome has posted for PayPal, MySpace, AOL, SKype, Yahoo! & others, one can certainly get a clearer picture of implementations of government demands, but also these training manuals created by the companies clearly illuminate their own intent. Also, who else has had this information? Isn't it deceptive marketing to peddle products with such backdoors or intended weaknesses?

[ I tried sending this into Slashdot ]

The totally fake capitalist insanity of the CCFE - Chicago Climate Futures Exchange and Chicago Climate Exchange (partly owned by who else, Goldman Sachs) is coming to a hegemonic discourse near you! I found this list of insane garbage & had to add it: Membership Categories

Offset Providers: Owners of title to qualifying offset projects that sequester, destroy or reduce GHG emissions. Offset Providers register and sell offsets directly on the CCX (learn more).

Offset Aggregators: Entities that serve as the administrative representative, on behalf of offset project owners, of multiple offset-generating projects. Offset projects involving less than 10,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year should be registered and sold through an Offset Aggregator (learn more).
Liquidity Providers:Entities or individuals who trade on CCX for purposes other than complying with the CCX Emission Reduction Schedule, such as market makers and proprietary trading groups (learn more).

Exchange Participants: Entities or individuals who purchase Carbon Financial Instrument® (CFI®) contracts and retire them to offset emissions associated with special events or other specified activities (learn more).

There would NEVER be a bubble, short squeeze or other maneuvers from "liquidity providers". WOW.... The best move would be to get a bunch of these CCX securities with borrowed money and then find out someone else was 'canceling' a bunch of permits. You'd make a mint on the supply squeeze! Now THAT would be really, uh, green. In the cash sense.
Matt Taibbi on Goldman Sachs likely carbon bubble agenda using CCX:

The bank owns a 10 percent stake in the Chicago Climate Exchange, where the carbon credits will be traded. Moreover, Goldman owns a minority stake in Blue Source LLC, a Utahbased firm that sells carbon credits of the type that will be in great demand if the bill passes. Nobel Prize winner Al Gore, who is intimately involved with the planning of cap-and-trade, started up a company called Generation Investment Management with three former bigwigs from Goldman Sachs Asset Management, David Blood, Mark Ferguson and Peter Harris. Their business? Investing in carbon offsets. There's also a $500 million Green Growth Fund set up by a Goldmanite to invest in greentech … the list goes on and on. Goldman is ahead of the headlines again, just waiting for someone to make it rain in the right spot. Will this market be bigger than the energyfutures market?

"Oh, it'll dwarf it," says a former staffer on the House energy committee.

Well, you might say, who cares? If cap-and-trade succeeds, won't we all be saved from the catastrophe of global warming? Maybe — but capandtrade, as envisioned by Goldman, is really just a carbon tax structured so that private interests collect the revenues. Instead of simply imposing a fixed government levy on carbon pollution and forcing unclean energy producers to pay for the mess they make, cap-and-trade will allow a small tribe of greedy-as-hell Wall Street swine to turn yet another commodities market into a private taxcollection scheme. This is worse than the bailout: It allows the bank to seize taxpayer money before it's even collected.

"If it's going to be a tax, I would prefer that Washington set the tax and collect it," says Michael Masters, the hedgefund director who spoke out against oilfutures speculation. "But we're saying that Wall Street can set the tax, and Wall Street can collect the tax. That's the last thing in the world I want. It's just asinine."

Kopimi

Internets 2009

/join #kopimi

According to Kopimi, all truths can be summarized in a single sentence: “the Internet is right”.

With prehistoric seeds, Kopimi roots itself in the future, holding together a vibrating avalanche of knowledge, creating the foundation of for a discussion untouched by the lashing shifts of time and space. A tumult where there’s no right to remain silent, you’ll have to talk to everyone.

Flocking, swarming, and noisy, we sow ourselves in new context and grow. This book is a spontaneously organised cluster swarm project with a single purpose — Kopimi will intensify, multiply, condensate. We want to reach further into ourselfs and into Kopimi. We want to penetrate into you and into the future.

Our words will, at the same time, sound like madness to deaf ears, and lovely caresses for those who see and hear, but above all: they will stick to you, you in particular — and your mother. This is a book for you who live in the moment, but seek your way forward through the ages.

In the shadow of the final crisis of the cultural industry in the 21st century, a larger picture grows of powehr, broccoli, and Kopimi. Every step of the failures of the cultural business is followed by the spooky successes and structurally diffuse spread of an Internet elite, all over the world. The book you’re reading has no author, no designer, no typesetter, and no means of distribution. Still it’s right before you. How did this happen?

Read the frightening instructions that a loosely connected nucleus of IT experts implanted into the network existance of an unsuspecting generation of youths, and about how the group stole the eggs, dollarsh, and jpegs away, right before the very eyes of the establishment, and powerful financial interests. Read about how serversh, seedersh, traeckers, mails, corporate contracts, foreign inverstors, Ikko’s allowance, scandalous ads, links, and search engines infiltrated and ruined a world, that had nobody to turn to, nobody to seek advice from, and nobody to trust…

This machine that is operationg below radar frequencies, moves unhindered from the jungle’s of Cambodia to the gay … of San Fransisco, by the empty beaches of Tel-Aviv, and into the internet connections of regular people of the suburbs to Jönköping or the harbour of Göteborg. It leaves nobody untouched and destroys everything in its way. Technically superior and physically independent, it continually transforms, metamorphoses, and reappears, in everchanging incarnations and under different code names. While strangling it’s opponents, it remains untouchable, and even more so — incomprehensible.

It has been said that this is the first time Kopimi frees the world, but we can rest assured that it will not be the last.
